Dr. D Purandeswari, Hon’ble Minister of state for Human Resource Development inaugurated the Dspace Digital Library at St Albert’s College, Ernakulam at a function presided over by Mr. Tony Chammany, Worshipful Mayor, Corporation of Cochin
This is a project under MPLAD scheme of Prof K.V Thomas, M.P and is a first of its kind in the state. The Dspace Digital Library project has been implemented by the District Planning Office, Ernakulam through KELTRON. Dr. D Purandeswari spoke about how the Digital library would help students to become global citizens and address issues on a global level. The digital library will play an important role in preserving information when compared to paper which can disintegrate fast.
The overall objective of setting up the Digital Library for the educational community is to create a platform for capturing, storing, indexing, preserving and redistributing the intellectual output of the educational establishment for the overall development of the community on a long term basis. Massachusetts Institute of Technology in its year of research jointly with Hewlett Packard bring Dspace, the world class knowledge repository for the benefit of the educational community.
Mr. Hibi Eden MLA, offered felicitations on the momentous occasion. Mr. Joseph Anjiparambil, President Alumini Association, and Shri Vishal T Vijayan, College union Chairman were also present at the function.
This newly inaugurated Dspace digital library will open doorways to new learning and brighter prospects and also promote scientific temper and an inquisitive mind.
